Sara's Story:

Sara Carter has been riding since before she could walk and has been teaching for over 19 years to date. Over the years, she has helped many achieve their dreams of becoming part of the horse world. Her skill list includes: Dressage, eventing, jumpers, hunters, hunter jumpers, equitation, hunters under saddle, equitation over fences, basic western, gaited horses, pleasure riding, round penning, problem solving, colt starting, trailer breaking, teaching special needs children, and confidence building skills with fearful riders.

Not only is she the Director of Haven hills, Sara is also a Certified Special Olympic Coach International, a PATH, Intl (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified instructor, as well as a certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.  She continues to stay busy mentoring Instructors-In-Training and has begun a new journey into the therapeutic vaulting. Haven Hills Therapeutic Riding Center became a PATH, Intl. center in December 2009, and an officially accredited Special Olympics of Georgia institution in March 2010! In June 2010, we secured our first school contract for public and private schools to give their students to get their therapies during the school days. We are currently in the process of securing a few others for in-school therapies and after-school care groups.

Sara's current list of skills continues to grow through constant continuing education. She is currently enrolled in American Sign Language Classes, and is a volunteer with Palmetto Baptist's Deaf Ministries to help interpret the coaches' directions to our deaf students during upwards basketball. In June 2012, she secured an interactive vaulting mentor as well as a therapeutic Driving mentor and started her education as an EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) Instructor.  We are so excited for her as she stares down the new challenges in front of her.
