My name is Lilly Dog Carter, and this is my story.
I was cold, lonely, homeless, and wandering all over Fairburn looking for my special someone. I had been stuck in some kind of animal trap, was skinny, and scared. I met my mom one day while she was feeding horses. Her name is Sara and she let me get into her car and took me to her barn. I only wanted to be with her, so she let me start sleeping in the house. She let me run and heal, and taught me how to be loved.
This was in 2006, before many of my long-legged friends came to live here too. Before I knew it, I had met many people and animals who had been through the same horrors as me. Haven Hills is exactly what its name means to me; it is a haven for any animal, humans too, and a special place that we all call home. It provides a safe haven, shelter for its animals, and some really really amazing food.
I really prefer corn. Buddy Bear prefers his sugar donuts. Dolce loves peanut butter crackers and Peggy Sue loves her muffins and coffee. We are all loved, well taken care of, and allowed to be our own individual personalities. Since I came to live here, Sara has taken me many places and taught me many things.
Although I am never far from my mom, I really love going for rides in the wheelchairs with the children. I love seeing them every week and helping them cope with their fears and their disabilities; most of all, I love listening to them laugh. They always laugh. The belly rubs are great too.
In 2012, Sara decided I was finally calm enough for service dog testing. I passed, and am always able to help the children and participate in all their activities; I've even been to Special Olympics State competition!
Here is a picture of me at the Special Olympics!
What an amazing life I have found! You can almost always find me within five feet of my mom, so feel free to pet me and tell me what a good job I do working at Haven Hills. With much love and blessings to everyone from the happiest dog in the world.
Update November 5, 2018
Sadly, we had to make a decision and Lily crossed over the rainbow bridge. We are all heartbroken and will miss her terribly.
